How buying and delivering a car works
A transparent process from vehicle requirements to key handover in Moldova or Transnistria.
Quick answer
What to determine before starting the search
- the desired make and model;
- acceptable production years;
- engine and drivetrain type;
- mandatory equipment;
- acceptable damage;
- a limit on restoration spending;
- the overall budget after delivery and mandatory payments;
- the future clearance location — the Republic of Moldova or Transnistria.
Eight stages of the deal
Request and agreeing on criteria
The manager clarifies requirements and separates mandatory parameters from preferred ones: document type, maximum mileage, acceptable damage level, key availability, maximum bid.Result: a written selection brief and an agreed budget limit.
Selecting options
For the USA, Copart, IAA, and, where accessible, Manheim lots are considered; for Europe, offers from the relevant markets. Vehicles should not be shortlisted just because the current bid looks low.Result: a short list of options with pros, risks, and expected costs explained.
Checking the VIN, documents, and condition
The VIN is checked against the vehicle listing. CARFAX and AutoCheck help surface recorded events but do not replace an inspection and do not guarantee complete data.Result: a decision to "approve for bidding," "approve with restrictions," or "reject."
Preliminary budget and maximum bid
Before bidding, a substantiated preliminary budget is prepared, accounting for fees, logistics, and clearance. The client confirms the maximum bid — if bidding exceeds the limit, participation stops or new consent is requested.Purchase, contract, and payment
The payment procedure depends on the platform and contract scheme. The client knows the payee, currency, fees, and refund conditions in advance.Vehicle release and transport to departure
Once payment is confirmed, the platform releases the vehicle under its own rules. Timing is affected by title readiness, distance, and carrier availability.International transport and status tracking
After loading, checkpoints are recorded: the carrier taking custody of the vehicle, arrival at the departure port, loading, the transport document, and arrival at the destination port.Preparing for clearance and handover
Before submitting documents, the VIN, price, specifications, and document set are checked. The procedure differs for Moldova and Transnistria. Once procedures are complete, the vehicle is handed over to the client under a handover act.
What the budget consists of at each stage
| Block | What is taken into account |
|---|---|
| Purchase | The maximum bid or the seller's price |
| Fees | Auction, broker, and payment costs under the deal scheme |
| Domestic logistics | Distance and vehicle condition |
| International transport | Port, format, and schedule |
| Arrival | Port, documentation, and land transport costs |
| Clearance | The taxes and customs payments in effect for the chosen jurisdiction |
| Restoration | A preliminary estimate based on available data |
Client checkpoints
The client separately confirms:
- the selection brief;
- the specific vehicle;
- the maximum bid or price;
- the preliminary budget structure;
- the contract and payment schedule;
- the chosen clearance jurisdiction;
- any significant change in cost or route.
Documents that may be involved in the process
The set depends on the country, auction, and deal scheme: the contract, invoice, ownership document, proof of payment, transport and export documents, customs clearance documents, and a handover act. The final list is set for the specific deal.
Transport insurance
The lot payment procedure depends on the platform and contract scheme — payment details, fees, and liability for delays are fixed in the contract. If transport insurance is part of the deal, the contract specifies the insurer, covered risks, exclusions, and deductible.
In case of a delay, it is important to communicate not just the new timeline but also the reason, the responsible party, and the next checkpoint. Typical causes: waiting for the title, no space on transport, port congestion, or the need to verify documents.
