Body geometry
Misaligned gaps between the hood, doors, and fenders, as well as uneven body lines, can indicate deformation of the structural frame even if the outer panels look intact. A wheel sitting out of position is a signal of possible suspension or structural-point damage.
Airbags and seatbelts
Photos show whether the airbags deployed, but not the condition of the sensors, control units, and seatbelts after deployment. Replacing the entire safety system requires not only parts but also calibration, which is difficult to assess from images.
Suspension
Visible damage to the wheels, control arms, or springs is a reason for closer inspection, but hidden deformation of the suspension's mounting points to the body cannot be determined from photos.
Cooling system and engine bay
A crushed radiator or damaged fans are visible in photos, but the engine's condition after overheating or fluid intrusion requires diagnostics, not a visual inspection.
Flood damage signs
Look for dirt and silt in hard-to-reach places, moisture inside the headlights, water lines on the sills and trim, corrosion on connectors, and signs of interior disassembly (for example, for drying). For an electric vehicle, the safety of the high-voltage battery must also be assessed — this is a separate risk category requiring specialized inspection.
Fire damage signs
Even a localized fire can damage the wiring, control units, and interior materials beyond the visibly charred area. It is difficult to determine the actual extent of heat exposure from a photo.
Missing parts
Check the photos for the presence of the keys, the catalytic converter, headlights and taillights, cameras and radar sensors, the infotainment system, airbag modules, and — for an electric vehicle — the charging cable. A missing part affects not only its replacement but sometimes also the ability to run diagnostics.
